Growing Up Jewish!
Growing up Jewish is much different than that once popular show “Growing Up Gotti”. I used to think its a burden being a Jew. I started my life in the Middle East ( some country I rather not mention, but it is important to know that it is predominantly Muslim state) and stayed there till I was 6 years old.
Imagine being called names for being a specific religion. I wasn’t old enough to understand what they ment, but it did not feel good. Whether it was a child, a teen, or an adult, it did not feel good.
When the war began, my parents decided to migrate and that’s how we ended up in New York- land of opportunities. Or so they thought! (This topic will be discussed in further detail in a later blog.)
As I was growing up, religion changed its meaning. The first time I went to a synagogue was recently, but it was such an emotional experience. I felt that all these years I missed on so many wonderful things by not partaking in the traditions. I can’t say that I am the most devout person in the world, but I keep certain holidays and respect every Jew in the world.
More to come…
